uy Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge is a 2001 Hindi comedy-drama film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. It stars Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Rao and Anupam Kher. The film tells the story of Chandu (Arjun Rampal), an aspiring filmmaker who falls in love with his university friend Rucha (Kareena Kapoor). His father disapproves of this relationship because she is not from their Tarana caste which he considers inferior to his family's Brahmin caste. They come to know of their caste identities when Rucha is studying in the US. A non-linear film, it intercuts between their present (Rajasthan) and past (university days), creating a kaleidoscopic effect. Sonia Chopra's performance in the film received critical acclaim, with particular appreciation for her characterisation. The film was released on 19 December 2001 to universal critical acclaim with an 'A' certificate by the CBFC, who had asked Gowariker to pad out some of the dialogues with "sensible jibes at our gullible society". It is based on the novel of same name written by Ashok Mukherjee, who has also adapted it into a screenplay. For this movie, Akshaye Khanna was essentially an editor who worked for half a year to conceive the film's trailer. The film begins with Chandu, a director in his mid-twenties who is trying to make his first feature-film. He is at the point of quitting due to financial trouble but comes up with an idea inspired by the eponymous book (and earlier film) by Arundhati Roy which portrays the relationship of two lovers who cannot express their feelings for each other. With Rucha (Kareena Kapoor), his college friend, as inspiration for his characters and plot, he decides to shoot the trailer of the movie on location in Rajasthan, where they grew up. At the end of filming they are eating "bhatthi" (variety of fried vegetables). There is a scene in which he looks directly into the camera, pauses, then says, "I'll make you mine". The scene is part of the trailer. The rest of the story contradicts this. On returning home to Jaipur, Chandu discovers that his family is unhappy with his relationship for various reasons. He does not show it but he is angry. The film ends with Rucha returning for her last year's university exams at Delhi University. They meet at Delhi Gate metro station where they say an emotional goodbye, both having decided to study abroad after graduation. The film cuts to Chandu's apartment, where he is watching a play acted by Rucha and her friends. The actor playing him is also on stage. He watches as his actor 'proposes' to his actor-love for the first time, she accepts and the audience applauds their love as the movie ends.According to Gowariker, "Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge" is a "movie about two people who have known each other since childhood and have been raised together around a similar set of values". He added that he made it because he "liked the book a lot". In an interview with Rediff. cfa1e77820
