If you've ever watched the movie Jurassic Park then you probably remember the scene where Dr. Grant lands his helicopter on a dinosaur that is standing in water. The creature pulls its tail up, thrashes around, and pushes him all over the place before eventually dunking him under. It's a memorable moment, but it's definitely not Hollywood-realistic because the dinosaurs were fictional beings with no aquatic physiology to speak of. Well if you want to duplicate this scene on your own property without getting drenched, read on! Here are some tips to help you build your very own Jurassic Park of your own underwater lab facility. Build a Roof You can create your own underwater lab by digging an enormous hole in the ground, but the water will eventually seep in and ruin it. It's much more advantageous to build a roof over an existing structure. If you have a boathouse, or some kind of lake-side structure already built on your property, make sure it has a good roof. An underground facility would be ideal, but if you're going to go through all that trouble then there's no point in leaving your lab vulnerable to the elements! So build a roof over it and protect it from water seepage while you hammer out this brilliant plan. Then you can worry about building an underground complex later on when things get really serious. For your roof, you should construct a metal framework so that water can't simply slide off it. If you have to, build the roof out of something heavy like plexiglass or lead to discourage water seepage down into your lab. If you're planning on adding other dinosaurs later on then you also might want to construct some kind of locking mechanism so that your dinosaurs won't escape before they're introduced. Build the Underwater Room Now that your structure is protected from water seepage, it's time to build an underwater room! You'll need a special kind of material for this part of the venture because regular wood and concrete won't hold up if it gets wet. You might even want to use metal siding on your structure just in case you have to bolt it down. If you're planning on raising the roof anyways, you might as well do it now rather than later. The underwater room is where the action will take place. You'll need walls, a floor, and a ceiling. The walls are probably the most important part of this area because they'll help insulate your lab from water pressure. The floor and ceiling shouldn't be too complicated to build, but you want to make sure they're waterproof just in case the walls become damaged during testing. The water pressure in an underwater lab is tremendous. When you're down there, the water pressure will actually lift your structure up and push it away from its foundation. That's why you want to build a foundation strong enough to withstand the increased pressure, but not so strong that it will sacrifice itself and break apart when it's pushed! You can always go underground later on when you need more protection. This is where most people would begin creating an enclosure for their lab animals. cfa1e77820
